lisztomania/sports: discuss: Five Lists, Vol. 4 (Fantasy Hockey Special)

Top 5 healthy guys I won’t own on any of my teams:
1. Joe Thornton
2. Marian Gaborik
3. Jason Spezza
4. Nicklas Lidstrom
5. Jonathan Cheechoo

Top 5 guys who always seem to wind up on my teams this year:
1. Vincent Lecavalier
2. Philippe Boucher
3. Daniel Sedin
4. Petr Sykora
5. Patrick O’Sullivan

Top 5 guys rated too high in ESPN live drafts
1. Jose Theodore (Pick 7): Washington is hoping that he returns to Hart Trophy winning form, but Colorado did the same and ended up with heartbreak. His upside is stratospheric, but if you’re drafting him ahead of proven goalie standouts like Nabokov, Osgood, Bryzgalov, Lundqvist, or Turco, you must have bats in your belfry.
2. Joe Thornton (Pick 11): An assist maven, and has a great plus/minus for a forward, but he doesn’t like to shoot and he quarterbacks the San Jose powerplay. If powerplay assists is a stat, it might justify his high ranking. Why not pick up guaranteed 40 goals/40 assists like Vincent Lecavalier, Olli Jokinen, and Eric Staal?
3. Johan Franzen (Pick 32): Deserves the Fernando Pisani Award for a great playoff performance that boosts up the player’s stock the following year.
4. Jeff Carter (Pick 48): Why should a third line center in his real team be the second best forward in your fantasy team, especially ahead of first line players Jason Spezza, Shane Doan, and Corey Perry?
5. Steve Downie (Pick 69): Getting a bulk of PIM’s doesn’t change the fact that he cripples you in all other categories, especially if you can get category-fillers like Peter Mueller, Patrick Marleau, and Chris Drury.
